Employee Satisfaction: Practical Implications

By Statistics Solutions Team

Management focuses on job performance, organizational commitment, absenteeism, intention to quit, and turnover; areas that employee satisfaction can predict.  Employee satisfaction studies are nuanced.  For example, a recent study found a relationship between job satisfaction and performance is greater for high-complexity jobs relative to low complexity jobs.

Management can use job satisfaction studies to identify and predict employee and organizational problems.  For example, recent research has shown that employee satisfaction impacts employee’s intention to quit, which can then negatively impact job performance.   Employee satisfaction studies assess how satisfied employees are with areas such as salary and benefits, as well as measure the company’s mood or morale.

Satisfaction studies can also assess the effectiveness of a training program and department interventions, or assess an employee’s alignment with management’s strategic goals.
