Employee Satisfaction

By Statistics Solutions Team

Traditionally, when employee satisfaction is measured, the resulting statistics are used to describe rather than prescribe what to do.  Employee satisfaction is measured by satisfaction rating scales such as the Job Descriptive Index (JDI) and the Job Satisfaction Survey (JSS).  These scales measure numerous areas of satisfaction.  Management then reports the survey results to senior management, something like, “we examined employee satisfaction to measure how affectively and attitudinally happy employees are with their job and found….”

However, in the context of predictive analytics, employee satisfaction is not just a statistic to describe; rather it is a predictor of other factors such as leadership style, organizational culture, employee involvement, work environment, training, promotions, pay, and communication, to mention a few.

Therefore, there are practical implications for companies to study and analyze employee satisfaction; the satisfaction studies can reveal important predictors of particular metrics, as well as outcomes of certain organization behaviors.
